Meet TrustPay Team: Interview with Magdaléna Burgerová, Head of Finance and Accounting
Let us introduce you to Magdaléna, Head of Finance and Accounting.
Why did you choose TrustPay?
I have spent more than half of my active career in the financial sector and banking. After returning from parental leave back into the work cycle, I was afforded a moment to catch my breath, look around and think about my next direction. I wanted to stay in the world of finance, deepen my experience and apply it further to various projects. And that’s why TrustPay was my clear choice.
With its structure, organization, and culture, TrustPay provides a lot of space for self-realization and creativity while being flexible and quick in making decisions and giving feedback. It also responds promptly to changes in the market and its requirements. This unique mix adds the necessary dynamics to daily activities across all departments.
The initial feeling we get during the interview is very important. TrustPay made it clear to me during our first meeting that this is exactly the company where I want to improve and build my career. I am happy that I made the right choice, and now together with my team, we are improving and working on various interesting projects and challenges.
“I enjoy constantly pushing myself and my work, involving creativity, improving procedures, automatization, introducing improvements or implementing completely new processes.”
What position are you currently working in, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I hold the position of Head of finance and accounting. Since I was little, I have loved numbers and counting (especially money :D). I am fascinated by the stories that are hidden behind each number. All activities, deals and transactions are ultimately translated into the company’s numbers and results.
My work is anything but boring and monotonous. And that’s what I like the most about it. The scope of our department is relatively broad, from accounting, preparation of documents, calculations, financial analyses, managerial and statutory (legislative) reporting, interpretations, planning, and predictions to communication with external partners or colleagues from other departments. I enjoy constantly pushing myself and my work, involving creativity, improving procedures, automatization, introducing improvements or implementing completely new processes.
What do you value most about your work, and what is the biggest challenge for you at the moment?
The work that fulfils me is a never-ending process of improvement and finding new possibilities of how to do new things, to do them better, faster, and smarter.
The possibility of self-realization and the use of creativity in everyday work is important to me. A big challenge is always the established plans and their integration into the current market events and legislative possibilities. It’s always a bit of alchemy. 😊
The biggest challenge for me in this position is to ensure that the company is financially healthy and successful and that I can lead my team to achieve the set goals.
What are your relationships with colleagues within the company, and how do you evaluate the corporate culture of TrustPay?
It may sound like a cliché, but it’s always about people and mutual relationships. People are the ones from whom you leave or vice versa, who keep you where you are, inspire you and thanks to them, you find your inner motivation. Personally, I would not be able to work somewhere where I would not feel comfortable.
From the first day I joined the company, all my colleagues were friendly, extremely accommodating, and helpful. The atmosphere in TrustPay is similar to the atmosphere of my dream job.
Colleagues are helpful and tend to get involved in the activity, even if it is not always part of their agenda.
“Be brave, have an open mind, and desire to work and learn new things. You are doing it for TrustPay, but equally and much more significantly, you are improving yourself.”
What does a typical day look like in your position?
There is no such thing as a typical day. There are days when I have a clear plan and schedule, and I almost manage to stick to it and fulfill it. However, there are days when you go to work in the morning with a certain internal plan, and suddenly, things start happening and you “go and solve”.
Of course, we have our deadlines and legislative obligations, which must run like a Swiss watch. However, in between, there will be many other tasks and activities waiting for us to deal with them. And I am happy to say that most of the time, we are doing well and even with a smile on our faces.
What advice would you give to future candidates who would like to work at TrustPay?
Be brave, have an open mind, and desire to work and learn new things. You are doing it for TrustPay, but equally and much more significantly, you are improving yourself, increasing your competences, qualities, and your value.
TrustPay is a place for motivated and talented people who want to learn new things and constantly progress.
