Let us introduce you to Eliška, Head of Compliance at TrustPay, in this interview.

What was your journey at TrustPay – what job positions did you go through?

I joined TrustPay in October 2018 and have just celebrated 5 years with the company. I initially started as a Compliance Officer and a lawyer. Over these 5 years, I gradually progressed to become the Deputy Head of the Compliance Department, and currently, I am the Head of the Compliance Department.

Your current position is Head of Compliance. What does that mean, and what do you enjoy most about this position?

Compliance is a relatively broad term that often encompasses various aspects in many companies. In TrustPay, compliance largely involves assessing new business models, monitoring changes in current business models we collaborate with, ensuring their alignment with widely applicable legal regulations, and extensive rules from card associations (Visa/Mastercard).

It also involves compliance with various internal acceptance policies of our partners, who oversee additional alternative payment methods for our clients. It’s a rather extensive area that is challenging to summarize in a few sentences.

“I strive not only to comply with all norms but also to create a working environment where everyone can personally and professionally grow and contribute to TrustPay’s collective success.”

What do you value most about your work, and what is the biggest challenge for you at the moment?

For me, it’s mainly about the team and gaining new knowledge. A workday can be quite exhausting at times, and I believe that in those moments, it’s important to have people around who not only help with problem-solving through their expertise but also lighten the atmosphere a bit. As for learning new things, this has fascinated me since childhood, and work is still interesting for me even after so many years, especially because I can continuously learn and develop in an area I enjoy. The field is ever-evolving and changing at a relatively fast pace, so, as they say, “I’m never bored” 😊.

What are your relationships with colleagues within the company, and how do you evaluate the corporate culture of TrustPay?

Despite the significant growth in the number of employees over the past few years, the sense of a “homely” atmosphere remains for me. We have various team-building activities, and colleagues also meet outside of working hours, whether for a sports activity, a coffee, or a beer. The team has always been and will continue to be one of the things I genuinely appreciate about working at TrustPay, and I am very grateful to my colleagues for all the work they do.

What does a typical day look like in your position?

There is no universal answer to this because every day is different. I often go to work in the morning with some prepared plan, and it completely changes during the day. :D. It’s usually a combination of various meetings, studying documents and new rules, and addressing different ad hoc tasks.

I have a fantastic team of people under me, and it’s my role to guide and motivate them. I strive not only to comply with all norms but also to create a working environment where everyone can personally and professionally grow and contribute to TrustPay’s collective success.

Any fun moments from working at TrustPay?

There have been several, but I remember one amusing situation when a colleague was writing an email in English to someone abroad. At the end, she added the customary polite phrase “Best Regards” and her signature. The response she received addressed her as “Dear Best Regards” – something we hadn’t encountered before and found quite amusing 😊.
